As the year comes to an end, we can safely say that we’re on our way to launching our ETF (soon!) and while there is still much work to be done, we’re using this opportunity to look back and see how far we’ve come.

Public Market Update: Average Sector Performance
Let’s first take a look at the HealthTech market.
Rounding out 2023, HealthTech remains majorly in the red albeit less red than this time last year.
Of note, there are now 96 companies in the HealthTech universe.
2023 has been the year of:
💸 Acquisition (think CVS and Oak Street)
💰️ Bankruptcy (e.g. Babylon Health)
🔏 Companies going private (e.g. Tabula Rasa)
We’ve also seen healthcare advancements, with the big winner being Ozempic and Wegovy, which help patients lose weight (and treat diabetes) - and as a result need fewer obesity or diabetes related interventions.
In other words, things are evolving and we’re here for it.
Despite the HealthTech subsector taking a dip in YTD returns, HealthTech companies continue to bolster the overarching healthcare sector and there continue to be major investments within each taxonomy that we’ve defined.
The explosion of AI has also fueled technological advancements in healthcare and raised multiple questions about how else we can save money and improve efficiency (e.g., replace redundant staff and automate record keeping).
As staffing shortages and demand for healthcare services continue, it will be interesting to see how entrepreneurs, existing companies, and the market overall, will respond as we go forward.
